BILL NUMBER: S6322 TITLE OF BILL : An act to direct the commissioner of the department of corrections and community supervision to undertake a study of the surveillance, prevention, treatment and prevalence of hepatitis C among the inmate population SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Section 1 of the bill directs the Commissioner of the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), in consultation with the Department of Health (DOH) to undertake a study of the surveillance, prevention, treatment and prevalence of hepatitis C among the inmate population, and to identify any procedural, regulatory, legislative or budgetary obstacles to effective surveillance, prevention and/or treatment of hepatitis C. Section 2 of the bill sets a deadline of one year for the report required in section 1. Section 3 of the bill entitles DOCCS to the facilities, resources, and data of other state agencies as may be reasonably required to research and draft the report required by section 1. Section 4 of the bill is the effect date.

HOYLMAN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Correction AN ACT to direct the commissioner of the department of corrections and community supervision to undertake a study of the surveillance, prevention, treatment and prevalence of hepatitis C among the inmate population THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The commissioner of the department of corrections and community supervision, in consultation with the department of health, shall undertake a study of the surveillance, prevention, treatment and prevalence of hepatitis C among the inmate population, and any proce- dural, regulatory, legislative, or budgetary obstacles to effective surveillance, prevention, and/or treatment of hepatitis C among the inmate population. § 2. The department of corrections and community supervision shall make a report to the governor and the legislature of the information required under section one of this act, its findings and conclusions, and any legislative recommendations it deems necessary no later than one year after the effective date of this act. § 3. To the maximum extent feasible, the department of corrections and community supervision shall be entitled to request and receive and shall utilize and be provided with such facilities, resources and data of any department, division, board, bureau, commission or agency of the state as it may reasonably request to properly carry out its responsibilities pursuant to this act. § 4.
