BILL NUMBER: S6745 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend chapter 73 of the laws of 1940, relating to the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association, Inc., in relation to the purposes of the corporation PURPOSE : Amends the purposes for which funds of the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association, Inc., can be expended. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1: Expands the purposes for which funds of the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association, Inc., can be used; and updates references contained in the original chapter of law to reflect current statutory provisions. S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 6745 2017-2018 Regular Sessions I N S E N A T E June 15, 2017 ___________ Introduced by COMMITTEE ON RULES -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend chapter 73 of the laws of 1940, relating to the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Associ- ation, Inc., in relation to the purposes of the corporation THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Sections 612.1 and 612.4 of chapter 73 of the laws of 1940, relating to the incorporation of the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association, Inc., are amended to read as follows: § 612.1 Purposes. The purposes of such corporation shall be [the main- tenance of]: TO MAINTAIN A suitable headquarters for the members of such corporation[, the]; TO PROVIDE relief, aid and assistance [of such] TO THE VOLUNTEER members [and their families] OF SUCH CORPORATION who are disabled or indigent[, and the promotion of] AND THEIR FAMILIES; TO PROMOTE AND SAFEGUARD the welfare of the volunteer MEMBERS OF THE CORPO- RATION, AND THEIR FAMILIES; TO PROVIDE FOR THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS OF THE CORPORATION; AND TO ENHANCE THE MORALE OF THE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS OF THE CORPORATION BY PROVIDING SOCIAL AND RECREATION ACTIVITIES FOR THE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS OF THE CORPORATION, AND THE PROMOTION OF THE VOLUNTEER fire service within the incorporated villages of Lawrence and Cedarhurst and such other territories that are now or may hereafter be served by the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, Inc. § 612.4 Precept for payment of foreign and mutual fire insurance premium taxes. a. Such corporation shall collect and there shall be paid to it all tax imposed by [section five hundred fifty-three] ARTICLE NINETY-ONE of the insurance law, for fire department use and benefit, upon premiums on policies of insurance against loss or damage by fire covering property situated within the incorporated villages of Lawrence and Cedarhurst, and within any duly organized territory in which the EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
