BILL NUMBER: S937 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the military law, in relation to pay and allowances of members of the militia PURPOSE : To increase the rate of pay for New York State military personnel ordered in to active service of the state. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section one increases the rate of pay for New York State military personnel ordered in to active service of the state. Section two provides that this act shall take effect on April 1, 2018. JUSTIFICATION : The rate of pay for New York State military personnel ordered in to active service has not been increased since 2004, when minimum wage was $5.15. The wage we pay the brave men and women who serve our state during emergencies and disasters should, at minimum, keep pace with the increasing minimum wage.

CROCI -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Veterans, Homeland Securi- ty and Military Affairs AN ACT to amend the military law, in relation to pay and allowances of members of the militia THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 210 of the military law, as amended by chapter 418 of the laws of 2004, is amended to read as follows: 1. Each member of the militia ordered into the active service of the state pursuant to sections six and seven of this chapter, shall receive for each day or part thereof of such duty the same pay and allowances as are received by members of the appropriate force of the armed forces of the United States of corresponding grade, rating and length of service, or [one hundred twenty-five] TWO HUNDRED FIFTY dollars per day, whichev- er is greater. § 2. This act shall take effect April 1, 2018. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD01733-01-7
