BILL NUMBER: S7594 SPONSOR: GOLDEN TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 537 of the laws of 2008, amending the education law relating to a restricted dental faculty license, in relation to extending the expiration of such chapter PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this legislation is to extend the current provisions of law concerning licensure of foreign trained dentists who are employed as full-time faculty members at a New York State dental school. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one amends the effective date of Chapter 537 of the Laws of 2008, which currently sunsets on February 1, 2019. Chapter 537 added section 6604-b to the Education Law to authorize the State Education Department (SED) to issue a full-time faculty license to foreign-trained dentists who are full-time faculty members employed at an approved New York state school of dentistry. GOLDEN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend chapter 537 of the laws of 2008, amending the education law relating to a restricted dental faculty license, in relation to extending the expiration of such chapter THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 537 of the laws of 2008, amending the education law relating to a restricted dental faculty license, as amended by chapter 410 of the laws of 2016, is amended to read as follows: § 2. This act shall take effect February 1, 2009 and shall expire February 1, [2019] 2021 when upon such date the provisions of this act shall be deemed repealed; provided that the commissioner of education is authorized to promulgate rules and regulations necessary to implement the provisions of this act prior to such effective date; and provided further that any restricted dental faculty license awarded prior to February 1, [2019] 2021 shall remain valid and effective until the expi- ration thereof. § 2.
