BILL NUMBER: S8749 SPONSOR: SEPULVEDA TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to the collection of data regarding certain students attending career education programs PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill will require the commissioner of education to count how many ninth graders are attending career education classes in school districts which receive state aid for career education. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 would require the commissioner to collect data about students attending career education programs for certain school districts which receive state aid for career education. Section 2 would provide that the effective date be immediate.

SEPULVEDA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to the collection of data regarding certain students attending career education programs THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 10 of section 3602 of the education law is amended by adding a new paragraph e to read as follows: E. CAREER EDUCATION DATA COLLECTION. BEGINNING IN THE TWO THOUSAND SEVENTEEN--TWO THOUSAND EIGHTEEN SCHOOL YEAR THE COMMISSIONER SHALL COLLECT DATA FROM SCHOOL DISTRICTS RECEIVING AID UNDER THIS SUBDIVISION ON THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN THE BASE YEAR THAT ARE IN GRADE NINE AND ENROLLED IN CAREER EDUCATION COURSES IN TRADE/INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION, TECHNICAL EDUCATION, AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION, HEALTH OCCUPATIONS EDUCA- TION, BUSINESS AND MARKETING EDUCATION, FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE EDUCATION, AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN A MANNER PRESCRIBED BY THE COMMISSIONER. § 2.
