BILL NUMBER: S2890 SPONSOR: SALAZAR TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 670 of the laws of 2007 amending the education law relating to directing the commissioner of education to promulgate regulations limiting the engines of school vehicles to remain idling while parked or standing on school grounds, in relation to the effec- tiveness thereof PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill extends State law created in 2007 that tried to remedy a long- standing pollution problem around New York State schools by banning the idling of school vehicles while on school grounds due to the toxic exhaust of diesel burning vehicles. With New York having some of the highest rate of pediatric asthma in the nation, it is important for the State to reauthorize this law requiring no-idling policies on school grounds to help protect our children's health.
