BILL NUMBER: S4008 SPONSOR: MAYER TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to encouraging secondary schools to have student governments if feasible PURPOSE: The purpose of this bill is to encourage school districts to include student governments in student organizations in all high schools to ensure students have the opportunity to participate in student govern- ment. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1. This section amends subdivision 9 of section 2503 of the education law by adding a new paragraph c to provide that all schools serving grades nine through twelve shall have student governments, consisting of peer elected students, included in their student organiza-

This act shall take effect on the first of September next succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law.
