BILL NUMBER: S5911 SPONSOR: STAVISKY TITLE OF BILL: An act authorizing and directing the boards of trus- tees of SUNY and CUNY to review and revise the report of the New York State Governor's Task Force on Campus Fire Safety issued in July 2000 PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this bill is to direct the board of trustees of the state university of New York. and the board of trustees of the city university of New York to review the report on campus fire safety produced in July 2000 and to update sections pertaining to the extent and adequacy of fire suppression and detection systems within the state and university systems. JUSTIFICATION: The New York State Governor's Task Force on Campus Fire Safety report incorporated short-term steps and long-terms steps for addressing the fire safety issues examined by the task force. STAVISKY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT authorizing and directing the boards of trustees of SUNY and CUNY to review and revise the report of the New York State Governor's Task Force on Campus Fire Safety issued in July 2000 THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The board of trustees of the state university of New York and the board of trustees of the city university of New York are author- ized and directed to report on the extent of fire detection and suppression systems within residential facilities within the state and city university systems provided or maintained in response to the New York State Governor's Task Force on Campus Fire Safety issued in July 2000. § 2. On or before December 1, 2020, the director of the board of trus- tees of the state university of New York and the board of trustees of the city university of New York shall deliver a copy of the revised report and the findings of the review conducted pursuant to section one of this act and any legislative recommendations they deem to be neces- sary to the governor, the temporary president of the senate, and the speaker of the assembly. § 3.
