   printed to be committed to the Committee on Agriculture
 
 AN ACT to amend the agriculture and markets  law,  in  relation  to  the
   manufacturing,  sale,  branding  and labeling of beech sugar and beech
   syrup

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  The section heading of section 203 of the agriculture and
 markets law, as amended by chapter 252 of the laws of 2015,  is  amended
 and a new subdivision (d) is added to read as follows:
   Manufacture  and  sale of imitation maple, birch [or], walnut OR BEECH
 sugar and syrup prohibited.
   (D) 1. NO PERSON SHALL MANUFACTURE FOR SALE, KEEP FOR SALE,  OR  OFFER
 OR  EXPOSE  FOR SALE, ANY SUGAR IN IMITATION OR SEMBLANCE OF BEECH SUGAR
 WHICH IS NOT PURE BEECH SUGAR, NOR ANY SYRUP IN IMITATION  OR  SEMBLANCE
 OF  BEECH  SYRUP,  WHICH  IS  NOT PURE BEECH SYRUP, NOR SHALL ANY PERSON
 MANUFACTURE, OFFER OR EXPOSE FOR SALE ANY SUGAR AS AND FOR  BEECH  SUGAR
 WHICH  IS  NOT  PURE  BEECH  SUGAR, NOR ANY SYRUP AS AND FOR BEECH SYRUP
 WHICH IS NOT PURE BEECH SYRUP.
    2. FOR THE PURPOSE OF THIS ARTICLE THE TERM "BEECH  SUGAR"  SHALL  BE
 DEEMED TO MEAN SUGAR MADE FROM PURE BEECH SAP OR PURE BEECH  SYRUP,  AND
 THE  TERM  "BEECH  SYRUP"  SHALL  BE DEEMED TO MEAN SYRUP MADE FROM PURE
 BEECH SAP.
   § 2. Section 204 of the agriculture and markets  law,  as  amended  by
 chapter 252 of the laws of 2015, is amended to read as follows:
   § 204. Branding  and  labeling  of  maple, birch [or], walnut OR BEECH
 sugar and syrup mixtures. No person shall manufacture,  sell  or  expose
 for  sale,  any compound or mixture as and for sugar which shall be made
 up of maple, birch [or], walnut OR BEECH  sugar  mixed  with  any  other
 sugar or any other substance without branding or labeling the said sugar
 with  a  statement  giving  the  ingredients  of which it is made up. No
 
  EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets
                       [ ] is old law to be omitted.
