BILL NUMBER: S5943 SPONSOR: REICHLIN-MELNICK TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to permitting the Suffern central school district to move the date of their annual meeting and election for the 2021 year so that it does not conflict with religious observances; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof PURPOSE: This legislation allows the Suffern Central School District to move their annual meeting and election from the third Tuesday of May, to the second Tuesday of May, this is being done so the meeting and election do not conflict with religious observations for the holiday of Shavuot SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: This legislation allows the Suffern Central School District to move their annual meeting and election from the third Tuesday of May as

S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 5943 2021-2022 Regular Sessions I N S E N A T E March 23, 2021 ___________ Introduced by Sen. REICHLIN-MELNICK -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education AN ACT in relation to permitting the Suffern central school district to move the date of their annual meeting and election for the 2021 year so that it does not conflict with religious observances; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, for the 2021 year, the Suffern central school district shall be permit- ted to move their annual meeting and election from the third Tuesday of May as required by sections 2002 and 2022 of the education law to the second Tuesday of May so that it does not conflict with religious obser- vances. Such meeting shall otherwise be held in the same manner and location pursuant to sections 2002 and 2022 of the education law. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire and be deemed repealed July 1, 2021. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
