BILL NUMBER: S63 SPONSOR: PERSAUD TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the social services law, in relation to allowances for the costs of diapers PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill creates an allowance for eligible parents to receive a quar- terly allowance to assist in the purchasing of diapers for their chil- dren two years and under. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 would amend section 350 of the social services law by adding a new paragraph (c): In accordance with the regulations of the department approved by the director of the budget, allowances granted under the provisions of this title may include the costs of diapers for an eligi- ble child, two years of age or younger. PERSAUD -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Children and Families AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to allowances for the costs of diapers THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 350 of the social services law is amended by adding a new paragraph (c) to read as follows: (C) IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REGULATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT APPROVED BY THE DIRECTOR OF THE BUDGET, ALLOWANCES GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THIS TITLE MAY INCLUDE THE COSTS OF DIAPERS FOR AN ELIGIBLE CHILD, TWO YEARS OF AGE OR YOUNGER. SAID ALLOWANCES SHALL NOT EXCEED EIGHTY DOLLARS, EVERY THREE MONTHS, PER ELIGIBLE CHILD. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS PARAGRAPH, AN ELIGIBLE CHILD SHALL BE ANY CHILD WITH A PARENT, GUARDIAN, OR CUSTODIAN WHO QUALIFIES FOR ASSISTANCE FROM THE FEDERAL TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY FAMILIES BLOCK GRANT. § 2.
