BILL NUMBER: S6330 SPONSOR: HINCHEY TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the agriculture and markets law, in relation to requir- ing the department of agriculture and markets to develop and maintain a database of New York state farms and farm products PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To require the department to establish a database of New York state farms and farm products SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one amends the agriculture and markets law in relation to devel- oping and maintaining a publicly available searchable database of New York state farms and farm products. Section two states the effective date.

HINCHEY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Agriculture AN ACT to amend the agriculture and markets law, in relation to requir- ing the department of agriculture and markets to develop and maintain a database of New York state farms and farm products THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 16 of the agriculture and markets law is amended by adding a new subdivision 52 to read as follows: 52. DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN A PUBLICLY AVAILABLE SEARCHABLE DATABASE OF NEW YORK STATE FARMS AND FARM PRODUCTS. THE DATABASE SHALL INCLUDE ALL FARMS LOCATED WITHIN THE STATE AND SHALL LIST THE PRODUCTS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE, PRODUCE GROWN, AND CONTACT INFORMATION FOR EACH FARM, UNLESS A FARM OPTS OUT OF BEING INCLUDED IN THE DATABASE BY NOTIFYING THE DEPART- MENT OF SUCH OPTION. THE DEPARTMENT SHALL PROVIDE EASILY ACCESSIBLE ELECTRONIC ACCESS TO THE DATABASE ON THE DEPARTMENT'S WEBSITE AND SHALL UPDATE THE DATABASE AT LEAST EVERY TWO YEARS. § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
