REICHLIN-MELNICK -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to establishing the eating disorders in children task force THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The public health law is amended by adding a new section 2500-m to read as follows: § 2500-M. EATING DISORDERS IN CHILDREN TASK FORCE. 1. THE COMMISSIONER SHALL CONVENE AN EATING DISORDERS IN CHILDREN TASK FORCE TO STUDY AND CREATE A STANDARDIZED APPROACH TO, AND DEVELOP BEST PRACTICES AND GUIDE- LINES FOR SCREENING EATING DISORDERS IN CHILDREN. 2. THE TASK FORCE SHALL BE CHAIRED BY THE COMMISSIONER OR BY SUCH OFFICER OR EMPLOYEE OF THE DEPARTMENT AS SHALL BE DESIGNATED BY THE COMMISSIONER. THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE TASK FORCE MAY INCLUDE REPRESEN- TATION FROM APPROPRIATE STATE AGENCIES AND MEMBERS THAT REPRESENT COMMU- NITY AGENCIES, HOSPITALS, OR OTHER ENTITIES DEDICATED TO RESEARCHING OR PROVIDING SERVICES TO CHILDREN WITH EATING DISORDERS. THE TASK FORCE SHALL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS, TO BE APPOINTED BY THE COMMISSION- ER: (A) ONE REPRESENTATIVE FROM NEW YORK CHAPTER ONE OF THE AMERICAN ACAD- EMY OF PEDIATRICS; (B) ONE REPRESENTATIVE FROM NEW YORK CHAPTER TWO OF THE AMERICAN ACAD- EMY OF PEDIATRICS; AND (C) ONE REPRESENTATIVE FROM NEW YORK CHAPTER THREE OF THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS. 3. SUCH TASK FORCE SHALL ESTABLISH RECOMMENDATIONS, FOR USE BY PEDIA- TRIC PRIMARY CARE PROVIDERS, FOR BEST PRACTICE PROTOCOLS AND GUIDELINES FOR EARLY SCREENING OF CHILDREN FOR EATING DISORDERS, AS DEFINED BY SUBDIVISION (A) OF SECTION 30.02 OF THE MENTAL HYGIENE LAW. SUCH RECOM- MENDATIONS SHALL INCORPORATE THE STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES ESTABLISHED BY EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
