BILL NUMBER: S8988 SPONSOR: GOUNARDES TITLE OF BILL: An act amending chapter 548 of the laws of 2004 amending the education law relating to certain tuition waivers for police officer students of the city university of New York, in relation to the effectiveness there- of PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To purpose of this bill is to extend. the law that provides certain police officers enrolled at CUNY with a tuition waiver for one course. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one of the bill amends chapter 548 of the laws of 2004 to extend the law for an additional two years through July 1, 2024. Section two of the bill provides for an immediate effective date.

GOUNARDES -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT amending chapter 548 of the laws of 2004 amending the education law relating to certain tuition waivers for police officer students of the city university of New York, in relation to the effectiveness thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 548 of the laws of 2004 amending the education law relating to certain tuition waivers for police officer students of the city university of New York, as amended by section 1 of item KK of subpart B of part XXX of chapter 58 of the laws of 2020, is amended to read as follows: § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire and be deemed repealed July 1, [2022] 2024. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD15459-01-2
