BILL NUMBER: S2299 SPONSOR: MAYER TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the labor law, in relation to providing employers with the opportunity to register for emergency alerts from the state of New York public safety alert mass notification system PURPOSE: To improve the distribution of emergency information by providing employers with an additional opportunity to register with the state of New York public safety alert mass notification system. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 requires the office of information technology to create a registration form for employers to register for the emergency alert system if they so choose, and for the department of labor to consult with the office of information technology to provide every employer with such registration form. MAYER, HINCHEY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Labor AN ACT to amend the labor law, in relation to providing employers with the opportunity to register for emergency alerts from the state of New York public safety alert mass notification system THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The labor law is amended by adding a new section 219-d to read as follows: § 219-D. EMERGENCY ALERT NOTIFICATION SYSTEM EMPLOYER REGISTRATION. 1. THE DEPARTMENT, IN CONSULTATION WITH THE STATE OFFICE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES, SHALL PROVIDE EVERY EMPLOYER IN THE STATE WITH A REGISTRATION FORM WHICH SHALL BE CREATED BY THE STATE OFFICE OF INFORMA- TION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES, TO VOLUNTARILY REGISTER WITH THE EMERGENCY ALERT NOTIFICATION SYSTEM. SUCH REGISTRATION FORM SHALL BE PROVIDED TO EMPLOYERS BY MAIL OR IN ELECTRONIC FORMAT, AND SHALL BE ACCOMPANIED BY A SUMMARY OF THE BENEFITS OF REGISTERING FOR ALERTS FROM THE EMERGENCY ALERT NOTIFICATION SYSTEM, INCLUDING A DESCRIPTION OF HOW THE USE OF THE EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM CAN BE UTILIZED TO PRESERVE THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF WORKERS, AND AN EXAMPLE FOR DISSEMINATION TO WORKERS OF INFORMATION RECEIVED FROM AN EMERGENCY ALERT NOTIFICATION. 2. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION, THE "EMERGENCY ALERT NOTIFICATION SYSTEM" SHALL MEAN THE STATE OFFICE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES ALERT SYSTEM KNOWN AS ALERT.NY.GOV, OR NY-ALERT. § 2.
