BILL NUMBER: S5237 SPONSOR: ASHBY TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Deputy Chief Brian Buell Memorial Bridge" PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To rename a portion of the state highway system constituting state route 372 in the village of Greenwich, county of Washington, between Barber Avenue and Mill Street, to be designated and known as the "Deputy Chief Brian Buell Memorial Bridge". SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 outlines the portion of highway to be renamed. Section 2 outlines that the renaming is ceremonial, and that the commissioner of transportation shall install and maintain the signage for the desig- nation. Section 3 is the effective date.

ASHBY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Deputy Chief Brian Buell Memorial Bridge" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-o to read as follows: § 344-O. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "DEPUTY CHIEF BRIAN BUELL MEMORIAL BRIDGE". THE BRIDGE OVER THE BATTEN- KILL RIVER ON STATE ROUTE THREE HUNDRED SEVENTY-TWO BETWEEN BARBER AVENUE AND MILL STREET IN THE VILLAGE OF GREENWICH, COUNTY OF WASHING- TON, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "DEPUTY CHIEF BRIAN BUELL MEMORIAL BRIDGE". § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act. § 3.
