BILL NUMBER: S8073 SPONSOR: JACKSON TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the civil service law, in relation to requirements for issuing civil service examination announcements PURPOSE OF BILL: This is a chapter amendment that makes changes to provisions of L.2023, c. 358. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: This legislation amends the underlying chapter by providing that the civil service examination notice requirements shall apply to school districts, BOCES, public colleges and universities, and local social services districts and specifies that these requirements are applicable to the extent practicable for job training programs.

JACKSON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation to requirements for issuing civil service examination announcements THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph (b) of subdivision 2 of section 50 of the civil service law, as added by a chapter of the laws of 2023 amending the civil service law relating to requirements for issuing civil service examination announcements, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 5486 and A. 6855, is amended to read as follows: (b) In addition to any announcement required by paragraph (a) of this subdivision, the department and municipal commissions shall [issue every announcement] PROVIDE NOTICE of each competitive examination to the following entities if the entity is located within the same geographic area as the department or commission: board of cooperative educational services (BOCES), [high schools] SCHOOL DISTRICTS, PUBLIC colleges, PUBLIC universities, local social services districts, and, TO THE EXTENT PRACTICABLE, job training programs. In addition, the department and each municipal commission shall allow any SUCH entity to sign up to be noti- fied electronically when an announcement is issued. § 2. This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same manner as a chapter of the laws of 2023 amending the civil service law relating to requirements for issuing civil service examination announce- ments, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 5486 and A. 6855, takes effect.
