BILL NUMBER: S8101 SPONSOR: WALCZYK TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Michael J. Finerson Memorial Bridge" PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To name a state bridge in the Village of Chaumont in honor of Sheriff's Deputy Michael J. Finerson, who was killed in 1970 in the line of duty SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends section 344-p of the State Highway Law to designate the Bridge on route 12, in the town of Chaumont, as the "Sheriff's Deputy Michael J. Finerson Memorial Bridge" Section 2 Provides that the commissioner of transportation shall be responsible for the installation and maintenance of-adequate signage within such time and manner as they shall deem appropriate. WALCZYK -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Michael J. Finerson Memorial Bridge" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-p to read as follows: § 344-P. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "MICHAEL J. FINERSON MEMORIAL BRIDGE". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING THE BRIDGE OVER THE CHAUMONT RIVER ON STATE ROUTE 12-E IN THE VILLAGE OF CHAUMONT, COUNTY OF JEFFERSON, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "MICHAEL J. FINERSON MEMORIAL BRIDGE". § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act. § 3.
