BILL NUMBER: S8895 SPONSOR: CLEARE TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the economic development law, in relation to the author- ization of the department of economic development to give a preference to any tourist promotion agency that is promoting the sport of stickball PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill would require the Department of Economic Development to promote the game of stickball within New York State. Authorizes the department of economic development to give a preference to any tourist promotion agency that is promoting the sport of stickball. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: amends subdivision (a) of section 161 of the economic devel- opment law, as amended by chapter 86 of the laws of 2022. The department shall give a preference to any tourist promotion agency that is promot- ing the sport of cricket or the 'sport of stickball.

CLEARE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation AN ACT to amend the economic development law, in relation to the author- ization of the department of economic development to give a preference to any tourist promotion agency that is promoting the sport of stick- ball THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision (a) of section 161 of the economic development law, as amended by chapter 86 of the laws of 2022, is amended to read as follows: (a) Encourage, facilitate and coordinate the planning and implementa- tion of programs to advertise, stimulate, promote and increase tourist travel, resort, vacation, culture and convention activities within the state and its regions with such flexibility as to bring about as effec- tive and economical a tourist promotion plan as possible. The department shall give a preference to any tourist promotion agency that is promot- ing the sport of cricket OR THE SPORT OF STICKBALL; § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
