BILL NUMBER: S9306 SPONSOR: STEWART-COUSINS TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 54 of the laws of 1938 authorizing Exempt Fire- men's Benevolent Association of Hastings on the Hudson, Inc., to collect, receive and use taxes required to be paid pursuant to the insurance law upon premiums on policies of fire insurance on property in the village of Hastings on the Hudson, New York, or other territory served by the fire department thereof, in relation to the use of taxes collected PURPOSE: The purpose of this bill is to update the name of the Exempt Firefight- ers' Benevolent Association of Hastings-on-Hudson, Inc. in existing law, as well as update the purposes and duties of the Association. Addi- tionally, the bill updates the way funds received by the Association from foreign fire insurance companies are collected and distributed, and the way funds received by the Association from the Superintendent of Financial Services of the State of New York are spent, to comply with modem NY Insurance Law.

STEWART-COUSINS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT to amend chapter 54 of the laws of 1938 authorizing Exempt Fire- men's Benevolent Association of Hastings on the Hudson, Inc., to collect, receive and use taxes required to be paid pursuant to the insurance law upon premiums on policies of fire insurance on property in the village of Hastings on the Hudson, New York, or other territory served by the fire department thereof, in relation to the use of taxes collected THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 1 of chapter 54 of the laws of 1938 authorizing Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association of Hastings on the Hudson, Inc., to collect, receive and use taxes required to be paid pursuant to the insurance law upon premiums on policies of fire insurance on property in the village of Hastings on the Hudson, New York, or other territory served by the fire department thereof, is amended to read as follows: Section 1. Exempt [Firemen's] FIREFIGHTERS' Benevolent Association of [Hastings on the Hudson] HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, Inc., a domestic membership corporation of the village of [Hastings on the Hudson] HASTINGS-ON-HUD- SON in the town of Greenburgh in the county of Westchester, shall collect and there shall be paid to it all tax imposed by section [one hundred and thirty-three] NINE THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED FOUR of the insur- ance law upon premiums on policies of fire insurance covering property situated within the limits of the village of [Hastings on the Hudson] HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON in the town of Greenburgh, Westchester county, as such village now is or may hereafter be established or extended, or within any duly organized territory in which the fire department of said village is obligated to render fire protection, and such corporation shall use any such taxes so collected or paid to it, [for the care of indigent members of such corporation and their families] TO MAINTAIN A SUITABLE HEADQUARTERS FOR THE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS OF THE CORPORATION, TO PROVIDE RELIEF, AID AND ASSISTANCE TO THE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS OF SUCH CORPORATION WHO ARE INDIGENT OR DISABLED OR INJURED IN THE PERFORMANCE EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
