 AN ACT to amend the public officers law, in relation to permitting poli-
   tical subdivisions and municipal corporations of the state to set  the
   residency requirements for certain positions

   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Section 3 of the public officers law is amended by adding a
 new subdivision 1-b to read as follows:
   1-B. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION OR OF ANY GENERAL,
 SPECIAL OR LOCAL LAW, CHARTER,  CODE,  ORDINANCE,  RESOLUTION,  RULE  OR
 REGULATION,  REQUIRING A PERSON TO BE A RESIDENT OF THE POLITICAL SUBDI-
 VISION OR MUNICIPAL CORPORATION OF THE STATE FOR WHICH SUCH PERSON SHALL
 BE CHOSEN OR WITHIN WHICH THEIR OFFICIAL FUNCTIONS ARE  REQUIRED  TO  BE
 EXERCISED,  THE LEGISLATIVE BODY OF A POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OR MUNICIPAL
 CORPORATION OF THE STATE MAY BY LOCAL LAW, ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION,  SET
 OR WAIVE SUCH RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS.
   §  2.  This  act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall
 have become a law.
