BILL NUMBER: S7738 SPONSOR: GOUNARDES TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the social services law, in relation to authorizing certain shelters to be reimbursed for housing a single individual in a room intended for double occupancy PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill will provide temporary housing assistance to a single individ- ual who meets the residential program providers' eligibility require- ments for victims of domestic violence as defined in section four hundred fifty nine-a of the social services law, while allowing the program provider to be reimbursed by New York State for any payment differential for housing a single individual in a room intended for double occupancy in order to address the systemwide lack of shelter for single adults. GOUNARDES -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Social Services AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to authorizing certain shelters to be reimbursed for housing a single individual in a room intended for double occupancy THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 131-u of the social services law is amended by adding a new subdivision 3 to read as follows: 3. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW TO THE CONTRARY, ANY RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, AS DEFINED IN SECTION FOUR HUNDRED FIFTY-NINE-A OF THIS CHAPTER, WHICH PROVIDES TEMPO- RARY HOUSING ASSISTANCE TO A SINGLE INDIVIDUAL WHO MEETS SUCH PROGRAM'S NECESSARY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS, SHALL BE REIMBURSED FOR ANY PAYMENT DIFFERENTIAL FOR HOUSING A SINGLE INDIVIDUAL IN A ROOM INTENDED FOR DOUBLE OCCUPANCY, IF NO OTHER ROOM INTENDED FOR SINGLE OCCUPANCY IS AVAILABLE WITHIN THE FACILITY. § 2.
