BILL NUMBER: S7760 SPONSOR: GRIFFO TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of the state highway system in Oneida county to "Officer Michael E. Jensen" PURPOSE: To dedicate State Route 46 in Rome from Prospect Avenue to Dixon Road in the Town of Western for Officer Michael E. Jensen, formerly of Rome, New York, of the Syracuse Police Department who was killed in the line of duty on April 14, 2024. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1- Dedicates a portion of the state highway system in Oneida County on State Route 46 as "Officer Michael E. Jensen." Section 2- Allows that the Commissioner of Transportation shall provide for the installation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state

GRIFFO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of the state highway system in Oneida county to "Officer Michael E. Jensen" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-r to read as follows: § 344-R. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM IN ONEIDA COUNTY TO BE DEDICATED TO "OFFICER MICHAEL E. JENSEN". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING STATE ROUTE FORTY-SIX IN THE CITY OF ROME, COUNTY OF ONEIDA, BEGINNING AT THE INTERSECTION OF STATE ROUTE FORTY-SIX AND PROSPECT AVENUE, CONTINUING IN A GENERALLY NORTHERLY DIRECTION, AND TERMINATING AT THE INTERSECTION OF STATE ROUTE FORTY-SIX AND DIXON ROAD IN THE TOWN OF WESTERN, COUNTY OF ONEIDA, SHALL BE DEDICATED TO "OFFICER MICHAEL E. JENSEN". § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as dedicated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the dedi- cation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be changed as a result of this act. § 3.
