BILL NUMBER: S7793 SPONSOR: FAHY TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to requiring the developmental disabilities advisory council to submit an annual report on the activities of the council PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To improve accountability and transparency in New York State's service delivery system for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by requiring the Developmental Disabilities Advisory Coun- cil (DDAC) to submit an annual report to the Legislature and the Gover- nor. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Amends the current law governing DDAC to require an annual report detailing:

FAHY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Disabilities AN ACT to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to requiring the developmental disabilities advisory council to submit an annual report on the activities of the council THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 13.05 of the mental hygiene law is amended by adding a new subdivision (h) to read as follows: (H) THE DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES ADVISORY COUNCIL SHALL SUBMIT A REPORT YEARLY TO THE GOVERNOR, THE TEMPORARY PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE AND THE SPEAKER OF THE ASSEMBLY ON THE ACTIVITIES OF THE COUNCIL. SUCH REPORT SHALL BE DELIVERED BY THE THIRTY-FIRST OF DECEMBER OF EACH CALEN- DAR YEAR AND SHALL BE POSTED TO THE DEPARTMENT'S WEBSITE. SUCH REPORT SHALL INCLUDE, AT MINIMUM: 1. ACTIONS TAKEN TO FOSTER PUBLIC UNDERSTANDING AND ACCEPTANCE OF DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES; 2. RECOMMENDATIONS MADE TO THE COMMISSIONER RELATED TO STATEWIDE PRIORITIES AND GOALS FOR SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, AND THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE STATEWIDE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AS REQUIRED UNDER SECTION 5.07 OF THIS CHAPTER; AND 3. ANY OTHER ACTIONS TAKEN BY THE COUNCIL RELATED TO THEIR DUTIES. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
