BILL NUMBER: S7932 SPONSOR: MAYER TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 658 of the laws of 1991 establishing a library district in the village of Mamaroneck, Westchester county, in relation to the number of members of the board of trustees PURPOSE OF BILL: This bill amends chapter 658 of the laws of 1991 establishing a library district in the village of Mamaroneck, Westchester county, to reduce the number of members of the board of trustees. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends section 2 of chapter 658 of the laws of 1991 establish- ing a library district in the village of Mamaroneck, Westchester county, to reduce the number of members of the board of trustees from eleven to nine.

MAYER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Libraries AN ACT to amend chapter 658 of the laws of 1991 establishing a library district in the village of Mamaroneck, Westchester county, in relation to the number of members of the board of trustees THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph c of subdivision 1 of section 2 of chapter 658 of the laws of 1991 establishing a library district in the village of Mamaroneck, Westchester county is amended to read as follows: c. The election of [eleven] NINE trustees as hereinafter provided. § 2. Section 3 of chapter 658 of the laws of 1991 establishing a library district in the village of Mamaroneck, Westchester county is amended to read as follows: § 3. Organization and structure. The Mamaroneck public library district shall be managed, operated and controlled by a board of trus- tees consisting of [eleven] NINE members. These trustees shall at the first regular meeting of the board determine by lot the year in which each of their terms of office expire, and the terms shall expire as follows: after one year- three trustees; after two years- four trus- tees; after three years- four trustees. As vacancies occur, trustees shall be elected at the annual election herein provided for to serve for three year terms by the voters of the library district hereby created, with each such trustee eligible to serve for a maximum of three consec- utive terms. Each term shall commence on the first day of June next following the election. Only qualified voters of the district shall be eligible for election to the board of trustees. The board of trustees at its first meeting each year shall elect or appoint a president and vice- president who shall be members of the board and clerk, treasurer and other such officers as they deem necessary. If the board so determines, the offices of clerk and treasurer may be held by individuals who are EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
