(Yonkers - October 6th) Senator Stewart-Cousins joined with consumers and staff at Jawonio in Yonkers to officially cut the ribbon at their new Thrift Shop located at 303 New Main Street. Jawonio is the Native American word for "independence," and this organization seeks to provide important life skills for its adult consumers who have developmental disabilities or other challenges. It also provides a low-cost option for residents nearby to stop in and buy items people donate. The shop is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays from 10am to 2pm. Donations can be made any day at Jawonio at 176 South Broadway in Yonkers.
