Albany, NY - On April 25th, members of the State Senate and Assembly joined Senator Stewart-Cousins at a press conference, led by the League of Women Voters, to advocate for voting reform. New York is one of thirteen states without comprehensive early voting legislation, contributing to an abysmal voting record in the state. Senator Stewart-Cousins reminded the audience that people are busy juggling different aspects their lives and the lack of voting options to accommodate that leaves voters disenfranchised. She stated that more voting options will allow for more people to become engaged in the voting process. As Leader of the Senate Democratic Conference, Senator Stewart-Cousins emphasized the need for Senate Republicans to join them in support of presented legislation that would secure and advance voting rights for New Yorkers.
