When I started my term as NYS Senator for the 40th Senate District, I made three promises about what the Democratic Senate Majority would pass in the first 30 days.
I’m proud to say every one of these promises has been kept.
First, I promised we would pass the Reproductive Health Act, to ensure women have legal access to reproductive healthcare choices in New York State. With women’s reproductive health rights at risk on the federal level, this bill was critical to protect women’s reproductive freedom.
I voted for this bill on January 22nd and it is now the law in New York State.
Second, I promised we would pass the common sense Red Flag Bill, also known as the Extreme Risk Protection Order bill, which allows a judge to temporarily remove firearms from someone ruled to be a threat to themselves or others.
I voted for this bill on January 29th and it passed both the Senate and Assembly.
Finally, I promised we would pass the Child Victims Act, a long-stalled measure, designed to extend the statue of limitations so that adult victims of childhood sexual abuse could hold their abusers and the institutions that enabled them, accountable in a court of law.
I voted for this bill on January 28th and it passed both the Senate and Assembly.
As your State Senator, I have a responsibility to fulfill the promises I’ve made. In my first 30 days, along with my Senate Majority colleagues, I’m happy that we have delivered.
I fully intend to work hard for every constituent in my district over the next two years and fulfill more of the long-term goals many of you have heard me talk about. My offices are also open to all constituents who need assistance with any issues that are under my jurisdiction.
Thank you for your support. And thank you for placing your faith in me as your State Senator.
