Statement on Meeting with City Hall Regarding Adaptive Reuse of the Manhattan Detention Complex
April 29, 2023
On Friday, April 28th, Senator Brian Kavanagh, Assemblymember Grace Lee, Councilmember Chris Marte, representatives of Congressman Dan Goldman and Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, members of Community Board 1, and local advocates held a meeting with City Hall and the Department of Design and Construction about the proposed Manhattan borough-based jail. During this conversation, members of the community asked questions and voiced concerns about the proposed plan and the possibility of adaptive reuse. We are expecting a prompt response from City Hall on the issues raised during this meeting and will continue working to ensure that the community’s voice is heard.
