On Monday, August 18, Senator Serrano embarked on a tour of the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail project site, which winds through the stunning landscapes of Hudson Highland State Park and Denning Point State Park. He was accompanied by key figures from the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail organization, including Peter Mullan, President & CEO; Amy Kacala, Executive Director; and Molly Lindsay, Executive Assistant. Additionally, Linda Cooper, Regional Director for the Taconic Region at the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, joined the group.
During the tour, the team explored various sections of the 7.5-mile trail, which is designed to be fully accessible to people of all physical abilities. They discussed the anticipated positive impacts of the trail on local tourism and the economy. Senator Serrano emphasized the importance of outdoor spaces for community well-being, noting that exposure to nature significantly contributes to both physical fitness and mental health. The trail, with its breathtaking views of the Hudson River and the surrounding highlands, promises to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities and foster a greater appreciation for the natural environment, ensuring that this recreational resource is available for everyone to enjoy. It is a short train journey from New York City via the Metro-North to either the town of Cold Spring or the city of Beacon. This provides easy access for people in the Bronx and the city to enjoy a day hike close to the city.
