Corey Mosher Receives Leader of the Year Award from Rural Schools Association of New York

Mosher Received the Award from the Rural Schools Association of New York

Lake Placid, NY– On Sunday, July 13th, the Rural Schools Association of New York honored Corey Mosher, executive director of the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources, with its prestigious Leader of the Year Award. Each summer the organization bestows the award to show its appreciation for an individual whose contributions to rural life and education in New York set an example for other leaders to follow. Past recipients include Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado, Senator Michelle Hinchey, and Commission on Rural Resources Chair Senator Rachel May.

Senator May said, "Corey Mosher is not just our outstanding Director of the Commission on Rural Resources. He is a true leader who has brought people and organizations together across the state to advocate for rural communities. This recognition of his leadership is well-deserved. Congratulations, Corey!"

Mosher said, “To be recognized by an organization that I have the utmost respect for, the Rural Schools Association, is such a great honor. They are great advocates for not only rural schools, but rural communities. I look forward to our continued partnership.”

Coming from a background in agriculture, Mosher was appointed as executive director of the Commission by Senator May in 2023, heading Albany’s only independent body focused on the holistic needs of rural New York. Working with groups like RSA to communicate the needs of rural New Yorkers to legislators and staff in Albany has been central to his role.

RSA’s Summer Conference was held at the Lake Placid Convention Center from July 13-15. On the final day of the conference, Mosher also participated in a panel alongside Commissioner Richard Ball of the Department of Agriculture & Markets and others to discuss “The Future of Rural.”

According to its mission on the RSA website, the RSA is “a member-driven organization that represents the particular interests of the small and rural school districts of New York State. RSA also initiates research, and provides information and services as needed by its members.” You can find out more about the RSA here: https://rsany.org/.
