State Senator Gustavo Rivera Condemns ICE Shooting, Joins Neighbors and Colleagues in Protest

State Senator Gustavo Rivera joined community members, Hands Off NYC, NYIC, and colleagues on the scene of the shooting by ICE in Marble Hill, The Bronx at 225th Street and Marble Hill Avenue this evening, where an ICE agent shot a man in his vehicle while a five-year-old child was in the back seat. The gentleman shot was rushed by the 50th NYPD precinct to the hospital following the incident.

“I am enraged that ICE shot a community member this afternoon while a child sat in the back seat of the car. While at the scene, I witnessed agents disperse to private buildings and joined Congress Member-elect Darializa Avila Chevalier to speak to neighbors nearby about their rights,” said State Senator Gustavo Rivera. “It is outrageous that despite ICE’s blatant violations of the law, the federal government continues to fund these operations and evade accountability for unlawful incidents. Our neighbors should not have to fear being attacked by federal agents.

We passed laws in Albany this year to keep New Yorkers safe from violations of the constitution and violence in response to the lawless conduct of this rogue agency called ICE. We demand that DHS release any footage of the shooting. There should be an independent investigation by our Attorney General Letitia James to hold those involved accountable to the fullest extent of the law. And we must abolish ICE.”
