Senator Rob Rolison (R-Poughkeepsie) is calling on the Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency (RRA) to address the future of the agency’s solid waste incinerator (burn plant), which is nearly 40 years old. In a letter to RRA Chairman Jim Miccio, Rolison wants the agency to redesign how solid waste and recyclables are handled in Dutchess County.
The burn plant is a “waste-to-energy” facility that burns more than 130,000 tons of municipal solid waste from within Dutchess County each year. Noting that the bonds used to finance the facility are nearing full repayment, Rolison said, “I believe now is the time to rethink and redesign how solid waste and recyclables in Dutchess County are managed.”
