Wednesday marked National Nurses Day, and the staff at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla are calling attention to legislation that would help make their job safer.

The Safe Staffing and Quality Care Act would set nurse-to-patient ratios in New York health care facilities.

The bill has been around for several years. State Sen. Shelley Meyer is a big supporter of nurses and is one of the sponsors of the legislation.

It takes a lot of momentum for something of this magnitude, perhaps what's happening now, is the push it needs to get over the final line," she told News 12.

Corinne Noonan, of Mahopac, was on the original COVID-19 unit that opened at Westchester Medical Center. She says that the passage of the bill this year would be the greatest “thank you” of all.
