Elected officials demand structural safety inspection of Whitehall Ferry Terminal after alarming Advance/SILive.com report on floor cracks

In a bi-partisan letter to DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez led by state Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, the officials expressed “serious concern” about the “prominent floor cracks in the passenger waiting area” of the Downtown Manhattan terminal.
“The appearance of two large cracks spanning the terminal floor has raised alarm among riders, some of whom fear the structural integrity of the space may be compromised due to heavy daily foot traffic and overall wear. Given the critical role this facility plays in our city’s transportation network and high volume of daily passengers, swift action and clear communications are essential to ensure public safety and maintain trust in our transit infrastructure,”
“I led this letter because Staten Islanders use this terminal every day, and when there are visible cracks in the floor, it’s reasonable to expect a timely explanation and rule out any structural damage.” said State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton.
