State Republicans echoing some of that in their comments, NYS Senator Rob Rolison (R-Poughkeepsie), has asked for more judicial discretion for Raise the Age in the past.

He brought up a recent gathering with law enforcement and Republican elected officials on Long Island.

"We talked about Raise the Age," he said. "They have concerns. One of the things they said is that individuals are using juveniles to commit violent crimes with guns because they know they will be going into the family court system, and their hands are clean because they are not pulling the trigger."

Rolison, along with some Democratic lawmakers aligned in an openness for a public hearing to discuss the issue moving forward.
