Senator Valesky Named to Task Force on Government Efficiency

Bipartisan panel to identify savings, eliminate wasteful spending, streamline bureaucracy

Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) has been named to the revamped New York State Senate Task Force on Government Efficiency, a bipartisan panel charged with uncovering waste, inefficiency and mismanagement throughout state government.

He had previously served on the Task Force, which–until today–had only operated during the 2010 Legislative Session.

“It is incumbent upon us as legislators to ensure that state government operates efficiently and effectively, and I am looking forward to building on the work that the Government Efficiency Task Force began in 2010,” Senator Valesky said.

The Task Force previously identified $312 million in questionable spending and potential savings. Additionally, it proposed reforms to crack down on overtime abuses, develop new accountability standards for outside contractors, review the use of state assets, and eliminate duplicative administrative functions.

Valesky and the other members of the Independent Democrat Conference (IDC) built upon this work last session. The IDC issued 15 legislative reports and advanced proposals to revamp state government that would save New York more than $1 billion during the next decade.
