David J. Valesky

September 25, 2018

Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) is hosting his sixth annual Senior Information Fair at the Canastota High School Dimao Gym (entrance nearest the tennis courts) in Canastota on Friday, October 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Experts from local businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies will provide important information on health care, in-home services, health insurance, prescription assistance, housing, and local services, as well as offer giveaways. All residents are invited to attend this free event.

Walgreen’s will offer flu shots (with insurance card and co-payment or cash). Other organizations will offer blood pressure checks and health screenings.

This year, breakout sessions are scheduled where attendees can discuss specific subjects:

Room 1:

10:30:  University Geriatricians - a program providing complete evaluations of the medical, functional, cognitive & psychosocial problems, and abilities of the older adult.
11:15:  Vera House – Senior Exploitation and SCAMS
12:00:  EPIC - provides seniors with co-payment assistance for Medicare Part D covered prescription drugs after any Part D deductible is met. Hear how EPIC helps all seniors.

Room 2:

“Madison County is home to dozens of organizations and agencies that can directly benefit seniors, but seniors may not be aware of all of the services available,” Sen. Valesky said. “This free Information Fair is a means for seniors and their families to connect with the experts and groups that can offer assistance and information on issues of importance to them.”

Attendees will be able to speak with representatives from the agencies listed below. For more information about the fair, call Sen. Valesky’s office at 315-478-8745 or email valesky@nysenate.gov. Anyone with transportation needs, please call the Madison County Office for Aging at 315-697-5700.
