Immigrant's Day of Action in Albany
José M. Serrano
March 13, 2012
(Albany, NY)- Senator Serrano met with the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) and Little Sisters of Assumption from East Harlem for the Immigrants’ Day of Action in Albany. These groups discussed the need for all immigrants to have access to higher education by passing the NY Dream Act that would provide financial aid services.
“The Dream Act is the opportunity for all immigrants to receive a college degree,” said Senator Serrano. “We need to support what is necessary for ambitious youths to excel in our society and boost our communities. This legislation is a wise investment for New York and I fully support all the efforts of NYIC and Little Sisters of Assumption from East Harlem to ensure all immigrants have access to the American Dream.”
The Dream Act is a proposed bill that would give undocumented New York students eligibility for scholarships, loans, and grants, including Tuition Assistance Programs (TAP).
