Senator Serrano today attended the unveiling of the New American Wing Galleries for Paintings, Sculptures, and Decorative Arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The opening of the New American Wing is in the final stage of a multiple stage project, and the new wing depicts colonial and early federal period arts, as well as nineteenth and early twentieth century showcases.
“It's a great day for arts and culture in NYC," said Senator Serrano. "These galleries will showcase American paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts for a brand new set of audiences. As the Ranking Member on the Senate Committee on Cultural Affairs, I firmly believe that the arts are not only a huge economic engine, but also provide educational and enrichment opportunities for people from all over the globe. I encourage New Yorkers to visit the New American Wing, and support their cultural insitutions.”
