SUBJECT:       A discussion of the state of New York’s rural hospitals.

PURPOSE:     The current fiscal climate has presented challenges to all aspects of healthcare delivery throughout the state.  In light of these considerations, as well as health care reform on both the federal and state levels, health care providers, specifically New York hospitals, must examine their current delivery models and adapt to an ever-changing environment.

New York’s rural hospitals are presented with unique challenges including, but not limited to, access to care, personnel shortages, and sustainability concerns.  Our goal must be to make tailored changes that both reduce costs and improve outcomes in even our most rural communities.  With that in mind, the Senate Standing Committee on Health and the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources is convening this Roundtable to discuss issues specific to these rural providers as well as effective alternatives to a one-size-fits-all approach.

FORMAT:  A structured discussion relevant to key concerns and reform initiatives specific to New York’s rural hospitals.

Oral testimony is by invitation only, however, written testimony or proposals are welcome and may be mailed or emailed to:
