Senator David Carlucci and Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland hosted a check presentation in celebration of a $50,000 New York State grant that Senator Carlucci secured in this year’s budget.
Meals on Wheels Programs and Services of Rockland, is a not-for-profit agency that administers five senior centers, an adult day care center, central commissary, computer learning lab, and an all-senior theatrical troupe known as The Music Makers. The Agency has also established a Pet Pantry for seniors who cannot afford to feed their beloved pets.
“We want to thank Senator Carlucci for his efforts to secure this funding for Meals on Wheels.” said Don Hammond, President & CEO of Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland. “The funds will be used for condensing units for two walk-in refrigerators in the agency’s commissary where close to 200,000 meals are prepared and packaged each year for members of our community in need as well as for food for the Homebound Meal Delivery program which helps alleviate senior hunger in our community.”
“Every day Meals on Wheels Programs and Services of Rockland provides seniors in our community with home cooked meals and services that keep them healthy and increase their quality of life,” said Senator David Carlucci. “Securing these important funds will ensure that Meals on Wheels will be able to continue and expand the good work they do for all of our seniors.”
Each week hundreds of dedicated volunteers support the Agency's activities by delivering meals to frail, elderly homebound individuals, and providing general assistance in our Senior Centers and the Adult Day Care of Rockland at the Bobbi Lewis Center. They also teach, coach and administer the Adult Learning Center programs, assist in preparing meals in the central commissary, assist with special events, and help the Agency's staff with day-to-day activities.
