Senator Michael Venditto and Assemblyman Joseph Saladino Call on Assembly to act on bills addressing Heroin and Opioid Abuse

Senator Venditto (R-C-I, Massapequa) co-hosted a press conference today, with Assemblyman Joseph Saladino, to address legislation passed by the Senate but awaiting action in the Assembly that will address the Heroin & Opioid Epidemic here in New York State.

Speaking outside the Nassau County Supreme Court building Senator Venditto urged the Assembly to take action noting there are only 3 more days left in the legislative session in Albany this year.

The bills in question include 26 bills passed by the Senate that address the epidemic through prevention, treatment, recovery, and enforcement. In addition to those bills Senator Venditto was urging the Assembly to take action on his bill, S7319, with corresponding Assembly bill A9797 sponsored by Assemblyman Saladino to require insurance companies to provide coverage for treatment for drug and alcohol abuse and dependency treatment services.

“We are fighting a war against drug addiction here on Long Island and in this country and the only way to combat that is through legislation like these 26 bills. It will take all of us to work together as a community to confront this issue.” said Senator Venditto.

Further S7319 will ensure that everyone that has insurance will receive thorough treatment to help them fight the urge to go back to their addiction and not make it that they have to relapse twice before they can receive inpatient services.”, concluded Senator Venditto.
