On Round Lake’s 150th Birthday, Senator Tedisco Passes

Senate passes Tedisco’s legislation designating Round Lake as an Inland Waterway, making Village eligible for state and federal grant funding for waterfront revitalization and environmental protection

Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I,REF-Glenville) today announced that the New York State Senate has passed his legislation designating Round Lake in the Town of Malta as an Inland Waterway to help the Village and Town receive federal and state grant funding for waterfront revitalization and environmental protection efforts.

Tedisco’s bill (S.7657/A.9579A), will allow Round Lake to take advantage of the state’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program and New York State Environmental Protection Fund, which can help local taxpayers by significantly increasing the community’s ability to attract appropriate development that will take advantage of, but also respect, the unique cultural and natural characteristics of its waterfront. 

Senator Tedisco previously has passed similar laws to include Ballston Lake and several waterways in Fulton County in the 49^th Senate District to the Inland Waterways program.

“As we celebrate the 150^th birthday of the beautiful Village of Round Lake, I can’t think of a better birthday present for its taxpayers and our environment then passage of this legislation that I was proud to sponsor in the Senate to add Round Lake to the state’s Inland Waterways program,” said Senator Tedisco, who is a member of the state Senate’s Environmental Conservation Committee. “Passage of this bill is a win-win for Round Lake and Malta taxpayers and our environment.  It’s a first step toward helping to ease the burden on local taxpayers by enabling Round Lake to apply for more federal and state environmental protection and economic development grant funding that will go towards boosting tourism and safeguarding this environmentally sensitive waterway.”

The bill also has passed the Assembly, where it was sponsored by Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner (D-Round Lake), and will now be sent to the Governor’s desk for his consideration.
