Statement on Law Enforcement Water Attacks
August 9, 2019
"Our police/correctional officers leave their homes and families every day not knowing what dangers they will face. They put their lives on the line to protect every member of our communities. They take charge in dangerous situations that no one chooses to face and they are confronted with countless decisions every day that could have life altering impacts. They deserve our utmost respect and appreciation. Regardless of one’s politics, reasonable people should be able to agree that no one who risks their life to protect our communities should be subjected to harassment and intimidation. Throwing water on a police officer is an act of violence and this sort of behavior must not be tolerated. As New Yorkers, we need to send a loud and clear message that we support our police officers and the rule of law," said Senator Pam Helming.
