Senator Kavanagh's Statement on Use of Force Against Nonviolent Protesters in NYC
June 6, 2020

In response to widespread media reports of police using force against peaceful protestors in New York City (see, for example, https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/05/nyregion/police-kettling-protests-nyc.html), video images, and personal observation, Senator Brian Kavanagh issued the following statement via social media on June 6, 2020.
"There’s been necessary focus on acts of particular police officers—in Minneapolis, Buffalo, and New York City. But it seems clear that the Mayor and the Police Department in New York City have made a policy choice in recent days to use force on nonviolent protesters engaged in civil disobedience. That needs to end now."
