As the New York State Senate returned to Albany for session this July, Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. has co-sponsored several bills and voted in favor of even more that will be sent to the Governor’s desk.

Some of the bills Addabbo voted in favor of include:

  • S.2636 — Includes contacts via text, email or other electronic communication in the definition of the offense of aggravated harassment in the second degree;

  • S.4345 (Addabbo co-sponsor) — Expands the definition of the offense of coercion in the second degree to include the production or dissemination of intimate images; and relates to the definition of sex offense;

  • S.297 (Addabbo co-sponsor) — Requires transmitters of money to provide a warning which informs consumers of certain fraudulent activities that may occur;

  • S.5619 (Addabbo co-sponsor) — Directs the Department of Environmental Conservation to study alternative municipal uses for recycled glass; requires the department to submit a report containing its findings along with legislative proposals as it deems necessary to implement its recommendations;

  • S.3392 (Addabbo co-sponsor) — Relates to the uniform treatment of waste from the exploration, development, extraction, or production of crude oil or natural gas;

  • S.4176A (Addabbo co-sponsor) — Requires supermarkets to make excess food available to qualifying entities;

  • S.7589 (Addabbo co-sponsor) — Directs the office of fire prevention and control to form a task force and issue a report relating to volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention;

  • S.8328 — Requires the New York City transit systems to provide twenty-four hour service unless a declared state of emergency is in effect.

“I am happy to be able to represent my constituents here in Albany when voting on legislation that is aimed at helping and protecting them,” Addabbo said. “Ending harassment, sustaining a high quality of life, and protecting citizens from scams are some of the most important things we can do as elected officials. I hope to see these bills signed into law.”

These bills will now either be sent to the Assembly for a vote, or if they passed both the Senate and Assembly, they will be sent to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s desk for him to sign into law or veto.
