Senator Mayer Hosts Yonkers PTA President Robert Rijos as Her Guest for the Governor's State of the State Address

ALBANY, NY -- On Wednesday, January 8, State Senator Shelley B. Mayer hosted Yonkers Council of PTAs President Robert Rijos as her guest during Governor Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State Address to commence the 2020 Legislative Session.

State Senator Shelley B. Mayer serves as the Senate Education Committee Chair, a position she was appointed to in 2018. During her time in the State Senate, and previously as an Assemblymember, she has prioritized funding, resources, and policies that provide public schools with the necessary tools to provide districts throughout the state with the resources they need to deliver a quality education for every student.

State Senator Shelley B. Mayer said, “Thank you to Yonkers Council of PTAs President Robert Rijos for joining me today as my guest for the Governor’s State of the State Address. The Yonkers Public Schools have been making great strides in performance thanks to the work of leaders like Mr. Rijos, Yonkers School Board President Reverend Steven López, Superintendent Edward Quezada, and Mayor Mike Spano. Though the state faces significant fiscal challenges as we begin our work on the 2020-21 budget, we must address the unmet needs in the Foundation Aid formula to support our city, suburban and rural school districts throughout the state.”

Robert Rijos, President of the Yonkers Council of PTAs, said “Education is a priority! and on behalf of the Yonkers Council of PTA/PTSAs, our school district parents and children, I would like to thank Senator and Education Committee Chair Shelley Mayer for the invitation to this very important inaugural event. We appreciate Senator Mayer's initiatives and dedication in support of education for our community in Yonkers. Alongside our Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins and Assemblymen Sayegh and Pretlow, we appreciate the work they do for Yonkers' children.”
