ALBANY, NY –  Last week the New York State Senate passed Senate Bill S2221, otherwise known as “Caroline’s Law.” This bill would make it a felony for cops, firefighters, EMTs, and other first responders to post photographs of victims on the internet. 

Caroline’s Law was introduced to Senator Scarcella-Spanton’s predecessor, Senator Diane Savino, almost a decade ago by Marti Wimmer. Wimmer’s daughter Caroline was a victim of photo sharing by a first responder following her murder in 2009. 

“Over a decade ago, my predecessor Diane Savino began working with Marti Wimmer to pass a law to make it a felony for cops, firefighters, and EMTs to post photographs of victims on the internet, after photos of her daughter Caroline’s murder were shared without consent. I am so proud to be able to support Caroline’s Law today, and to give the dignity back to Caroline in the process.” said Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, Chair of the Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee.
