Addabbo bill to support veterans service organization approved by NYS Senate

Legislation (S.2019) sponsored by Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. and passed unanimously in the NYS Senate would create a voluntary contribution option for congressionally chartered veterans service organizations on the state personal income tax return.

“I am proud to represent many Queens Veterans worthy of our endless gratitude and ongoing support,” said Addabbo, a member of the NYS Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee. “Giving back to these local heroes through something as simple as a voluntary contribution on state tax returns will help to ensure our men and women who serve in the military continue to receive the support and programs many rely on or have become dependent on,” Addabbo added.

Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) offer critical programs like job fairs, fundraisers for veterans’ groups, and accredited veterans service representatives to help veterans when they apply for VA benefits, just to name a few. A VSO is “congressionally chartered” if Congress has passed a law that chartered the organization.

After passing the Senate, the Assembly will now consider the companion bill (A.3160), which Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar sponsors.
